This is the beginning of a new year and maybe some of you have made New Years resolutions.. I never do as my mind set is; If there is anything I feel changing, do it straight away!!
I would feel lazy and would feel like I am trying not hard enough, hey it can't be that difficult!
Think of athletes or other people who have to follow a much crazier discipline every day! Plus as you will read in those following post it only feels disciplinary in the beginning, then when the habit forms, its just a habit.
Another trick is, try not to bore yourself with new things you may find boring first or still will find something you have to push yourself a little even after a while, like going to the gym.
Last Year during my New Years holiday in the sun one of the books I was reading was 'The 7 habits of highly effective People' by Stephen R. Covey. (can buy it here)
Honestly I understand if you are not a person who finds titles like this appealing as it looks like a success hungry author, another silly self help book... but you also may be one of these people, like myself, who put that prejudice behind and opened up to read anything and take it for its contents and not its looks!! This book is a very good example for that as it's very very good! It's also well written so you will like reading it and it will make you feel positive about making certain changes or adjustments in your life!
There are plenty of good posts on the web about building habits in your life which will end up acting positively for your general wellbeing, mood and health.
Here a short post, 3 easy beginners steps for habit forming from JamesClears Blog.
There are LOTS of other articles out about this, and I do also recommend VERY MUCH reading the book suggested above (you can also buy audio tapes or mpd to listen to it while you are driving, it's really good and so positive!! :)
Keep in mind
Don't expect to succeed from the very beginning, don't get frustrated and think you've failed completely once you missed out one healthy meal or a gym class. It's about forming a new lifestyle habit after all! Habits have to come naturally so if you want to follow a new healthy diet but have something else on like a date or a social fun dinner with friends or family then enjoy that and just postpone your healthy eating and get back to it once you have to chose your meal.
